WINTER - SPORTS AND REC - MONROE

League Rules

Everyone who plays, signs an injury / liability waiver (on the team roster).

Captains must have a “permission” note from anyone who is under 18 years old, from a parent or guardian, recognizing their liability.

HAVE  FUN!!

20 minute halves

Initial possession is established by “rock/paper/scissors,” as is the opening and closing prayer.

Running time, except for the last minute of each half and during timeouts.

2 timeouts per half of about 30 seconds each. Ball is then inbounded in ones frontcourt.

The ball must hit the rim on foul shots before there is movement in the lane.

There is no “stalling”. In the opinion of the ref, each team must be working toward a shot (or not pass up opportunities that one would normally take)

Substitutions are made on dead balls.

Technical fouls will be called for any “language”, and for any demeaning comments or aggressive behavior.  This foul will result in 2 points and the ball.  A second technical foul could result in ejection from the game and possibly the league.

A player must play in at least 2 games to be eligible for playoffs.

If a player has 5 fouls, they can still play, but the next foul will result in an automatic 2 points and the ball.

When games are tied at the end of regulation time, 2:00 will be put on the clock, and the team who gets the next possession will start at half court.  If there is another tie, we will do the same procedure with 1:00.  And if there is another tie, the teams will do rock/ paper/ scissors to see who will start with the ball for “sudden death” = the first to score.  Teams receive an additional timeout for tied games.

All games will be played.  If there aren’t enough players for a team, a team will be put together and considered a forfeit game.  A team may have 4 players without being a  forfeit, but if they are behind by 15 at half, it will be a forfeit and other players are to help.

Our refs are giving their time to help us have fun.  Every ref on every level of play will make wrong calls.  We are to expect missed calls and bad calls.  But It is our responsibility, in this league, to display the character and leadership that is required of each one of us to build an encouraging and positive atmosphere.

Please make sure to thank your refs and scorekeepers after each game.   Thank You!
